Looking Back At The James Bond Watches Worn By Sir Roger Moore
Yesterday, Sir Roger Moore has passed away at the age of 89. According to his family’s Twitter, he died following “a short but brave battle with cancer”. The late veteran British actor was best known for playing Simon Templar in the 1960s television spy series, The Saint as well as portraying the suave 007 agent in seven James Bond films between 1973 and 1985.
In his first Bond film titled Live and Let Die, he famously wore the heavily-modified Rolex Submariner 5513 with a customised buzzsaw bezel that able to spin and cut through ropes. Moore could also be seen wearing the Rolex Submariner in The Man With The Golden Gun (1974).
Then, in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), the Rolex watches which dominated Moore‘s first two Bond movies was subsequently replaced with Seiko, model 0674 LC. In the movie, the Seiko 0674 LC watch was doubled as a ticker-tape communication system that able to send important messages to MI6 headquarters.
In 1979, Moore sported a Seiko M354 Memory-Bank Calendar watch in Moonraker. The particular watch was equipped with explosives and a remote detonator.
Seiko was again served as the official timepiece for Sir Roger Moore-era Bond movies, with model H357 5040 Quartz Alarm-Chronograph making an appearance in For Your Eyes Only (1981). The watch was able to receive a digital message at the top of the watch face. Moore‘s fifth Bond movie also featured another Seiko watch, in the form of model S60583 seen during his diving scene.
In 1983, Moore returned with his sixth Bond outing in Octopussy where he could be seen wearing the Seiko G757 Sports 100 watch as a tracking device.
Finally, in his seventh and final appearance as James Bond in A View To A Kill (1985), Moore wore a total of three Seiko watches including the Seiko Quartz two-tone SPD094/6923-8080, Seiko Quartz Chronograph SPR007/7A28-7020 and Seiko Diver’s 150m SPW001/H558-5000.
