Dior Summer 2020 Men’s: The Best Collection Ever
Daniel Arsham, pastel colors, saddle bags, clean tailoring & exclusive RIMOWA trunks – everything we love in a heavenly 'strawberry milkshake' set design.
Dior Summer 2020 Men’s show surprised and delighted me more than any fashion runway show that I’ve ever seen. That explains this rare post-runway piece today.
For one, Mr Kim Jones tapped American artist Daniel Arsham – a personal favourite of mine – to work on the set design (but it was more than just that as we can see Arsham’s influence on some of the bomber jackets). Of course, a set of “DIOR” capital letters installation in Arsham’s signature “future relics” style is a must, not to mention the vibrant “pink desert” on the runway – a reinterpretation of Arsham’s iconic “lunar garden” inspired by Japanese karesansui (the “dry landscape” garden).
The whole set for the show feels like a heavenly strawberry milkshake.

And then there was this all-white, monochromatic color scheme throughout the collection with Dior’s iconic gray suit as the main inspiration. The bags are on-point (I’m loving the white saddle bag) and yes, those are some very cool, limited edition RIMOWA trunks and clutches right there.
Continuing his vision from last spring/summer season, Jones’ continued emphasis on the brand’s signature tailoring, cleverly borrowing elements from the house’s history and Dior’s couture repository has proven to be a successful strategy. Compared with what’s happening at Céline after Slimane, Jones’ moves after taking the helm have been steadily bringing in fresh air while making sure that existing customers are taken care of by maintaining the commerciality in his works.

For how long can this golden boy keep his magic alive at Dior? That is the ultimate question that I can’t wait to see the answers for. I’m waiting for the next season.
